Bird watching in and around Victoria B.C. is a popular wildlife viewing activity attracting many to the area every year. There are so many migratory birds and so many places to watch and study them from. Perched on the southern point of Vancouver Island, the region, is under the pacific migratory route, one of three flyways used in North America by hundreds of birds. The seasonal patterns of migratory birds visiting the Victoria area varies throughout the year. February migration begins and by March early arrivals are sighted. From April to mid June arrivals are sighted regularly. Late June to August birds enjoy the BC waters and forests. September and October winter migratory birds arrive like the Raptor. Up to 14 different species of Raptor, by the way! The list of birds visiting and living in the Victoria and surrounding communities is endless. Some of the more popular sightings include the Bald Eagle, Blue Heron, Coopers Hawk, Turkey Vulture, Sky Larks, Black Oystercatcher, Pacific Golden-Plover, Peregrine Falcon, Belted Kingfisher, Red-tailed Hawk, Osprey, Barn-Owl, Trumpeter Swan, Spotted Sandpiper, Pacific Loon, etc. The large geographical region makes for ideal Bird Watching country. Some of the more popular bird viewing destinations include Esquimalt Lagoon, Witty's Lagoon, Blenkinsop Lake, Island View Beach, East Sooke Park, Goldstream Park, Mount Tolmie, Rithet's Bog, Viaduct Flats, Gowland Tod Provincial Park and Ogden Point. to Clover Point.
